Our closest artist, Elise, is based in Chattanooga, about two hours' drive from Atlanta, and finishes your painting on the night. Johnna, in Alabama, paints in the Southern portrait tradition. The artists below are sorted with the closest first, and the rest travel in from across the US, with travel added to your quote.
We don't have a live wedding painter based in Atlanta yet. These two are the closest, and both take Georgia weddings.
About two hours' drive from Atlanta. Elise paints in acrylic in a light-filled, impressionistic style, shaped by her studies in the south of France. She finishes your painting during the celebration, so you take it home that night.
Starts at: $1,800 for a 16×20 inch painting of the two of you in your venue.
Most popular: $2,200 for a 24×30 inch painting with up to four members of your wedding party.
Johnna has more than 20 years of oil painting behind her, rooted in the Southern tradition of commissioning a portrait to mark a moment worth keeping. She paints the two of you with realism and detail, and the setting with a softer touch, then completes the piece in her studio and ships it to you. She is happy to plan the day with your wedding planner.
Starts at: $3,300 for a 16×20 inch oil painting.
Most popular: $4,000 for an 18×24 inch oil painting with more of your setting.
The other artists live further away and travel in for Atlanta weddings, usually by flying into Atlanta. Their styles range from classical oil to bright, modern acrylic, and starting prices run from $1,500 to $5,000. Travel and a hotel, if needed, are added to your quote.
Choosing your scene. Atlanta weddings range from hotel ballrooms in Buckhead and Midtown to converted warehouses and lofts on the Westside, garden and estate venues across the suburbs, and mountain and vineyard weddings in North Georgia. A painter can work in any of them, and the setting shapes the painting as much as the moment you choose. A ballroom first dance suits a rich, glowing painting. A ceremony under the trees in North Georgia puts the landscape around you. Tell your artist about your venue in your first message, because it often fills most of the canvas.
Working with the Georgia weather. Spring and fall are the busiest seasons for Atlanta weddings, when the weather is at its kindest. Summer brings heat, humidity and afternoon storms, so for an outdoor wedding, plan a shaded or covered spot for your painter's easel, close enough to see your moment. Many couples have the painter work outside for the ceremony and move indoors for the reception.
Fitting it into your day. Your painter arrives before your chosen moment to set up and begin the background, then paints through your celebration while guests gather to watch. They need a few feet of space, good light and a spot that doesn't block your guests or your photographer. Our guide to what happens on the day with a live wedding painter explains the timings.
The 11 live wedding painters on this page start at $1,500 to $5,000 for their smallest package, before travel. For 10 of the 11, the package each artist marks as most popular costs $2,200 to $4,500, usually with more of the venue or more people in the scene. Prices checked October 2026.
Travel is added to your quote. An artist within driving distance, like Elise, adds far less than one who has to fly in and stay overnight. So a nearby artist with a higher starting price can cost about the same overall as a cheaper one from across the country. Your artist includes travel in your quote before you book. For every artist's prices, see our US live wedding painter price guide.
Some painters finish the whole painting at your wedding, so you take it home at the end of the night. On this page, Elise works this way, and so do Aeron and Tracy, a husband-and-wife team from California.
Others paint most of it live, reveal it that evening, then take it back to their studio to add fine detail before shipping it to you, usually within a few weeks. Johnna works this way. Neither approach is better. Same-night finishing gives you the reveal and the painting in your hands. Studio finishing gives the painter more time for faces, fabrics and light.
Send an inquiry to the artists you like with your date, your venue and the moment you'd love painted. Your artist replies with a quote that includes travel, and every artist offers a free consultation call. When you're ready, pay your deposit through TheWeddingPainters to secure your date. Spring and fall Saturdays go first, so reach out as soon as you know your date and venue.
Not on TheWeddingPainters yet. Our closest live painter is Elise in Chattanooga, Tennessee, about two hours' drive from Atlanta, and Johnna in Grove Hill, Alabama, also takes Georgia weddings. Nine more artists travel in for Atlanta weddings, with travel added to the quote.

Yes, if you choose a painter who finishes on the day. Elise and Aeron and Tracy both finish the whole painting at your wedding. Most others reveal it that evening and finish the details in their studio.
Spring and fall are the busiest wedding seasons and the easiest for outdoor painting. In summer, give your painter a shaded or covered spot, and plan for afternoon storms.
No. Starting prices don't include travel. Your artist adds it to your quote based on how far they're coming, so an artist within driving distance usually adds less than one who flies in.
Yes. Your painter needs a few feet of level space, good light and some shade or cover. For mountain and vineyard venues in North Georgia, share the timings and access with your artist early.
