A live wedding painter attends your wedding, sets up an easel during the celebration, and paints a chosen moment from your day on canvas in real time. From Chicago to Austin, we're bringing together independent live wedding painters across the Central states. This is a founding roster, still growing, and we're being selective about who joins it. If your city isn't represented yet, reach out and tell us about your wedding, and we'll help match you with an artist who travels or let you know when new talent joins near you.

Live wedding painting means the artist is physically at your wedding, painting one scene, usually the first dance or the ceremony, as it happens in front of them. You take home an original piece of art created in the room on the day. If you're new to the idea, our US live wedding painters page explains the whole process, from choosing your moment to what happens after the last brushstroke.
The short version for planning purposes: your artist arrives an hour or two before the chosen moment, paints for four to six hours across the event, and either reveals the finished canvas that night or completes final details in the studio and ships it to you.
Central is our broadest US region, running from the Great Lakes down to the Gulf. It takes in the major Midwest wedding markets of Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Milwaukee, the Texas cities of Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, and the South Central belt through Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, and Alabama, where our founding Central artist Johnna is based.
Distance works differently out here than on the coasts, and that shapes how booking works. Central US artists are used to covering serious ground, and most will quote for weddings well beyond their home city, with travel priced clearly upfront. It also means a painter based in Alabama can realistically cover a wedding in Nashville, Atlanta, or New Orleans, so it's worth enquiring even if no artist lists your exact city yet. Tell us where and when you're getting married and we'll tell you honestly who can get there and what the travel adds.
Part of what makes this region rewarding for live painters is the range of settings. Texas Hill Country ranches and vineyard venues around Fredericksburg and Dripping Springs give artists big skies and limestone backdrops. Chicago offers historic ballrooms, industrial lofts, and skyline rooftops. Across the Midwest, restored barns and lakeside venues from Wisconsin down through Missouri remain the signature setting, while Nashville and New Orleans bring their own architecture, music, and atmosphere into the background of a painting. When you brief your artist, the venue is as much a part of the conversation as the two of you, since it usually fills most of the canvas.
Pricing in the Central states follows the national pattern: most live wedding painters charge between $2,000 and $6,500, with the typical booking around $3,500 for a 16x20 inch canvas and four to six hours of painting, travel billed separately. Because distances between cities are larger here, travel is the factor to watch. An artist within a couple of hours of your venue will usually beat a cheaper artist flying in from out of state once travel is included. Our full US cost breakdown covers the other pricing factors in detail.
Central US wedding seasonality splits in two. The Midwest peaks from late May through October, with September and October Saturdays the most contested dates. Texas and the Gulf states run strongest in spring and fall, since high summer is too hot for outdoor celebrations. Established painters book 12 to 24 months out for peak dates in both patterns, so if your date is set, an early enquiry costs nothing and protects your options.
We also list live wedding painters covering the East Coast and West Coast, and many of our artists, including those based centrally, will travel coast to coast for the right wedding. Marrying abroad? Several of our UK and European artists take on destination weddings.
We're actively building our roster across Chicago, Texas, Nashville, the Twin Cities, and everywhere between. If you're a professional live painter in the region, apply to join the platform and reach couples searching for exactly what you do.
