    Description

A portrait commission from Dorian is one of the rarest things you can give your wedding day; a work of fine art, painted in oil, by one of Britain's most decorated portrait artists.

Inspired by the grandeur of the Old Masters yet deeply attuned to the emotional truth of each individual subject, Dorian's portraits are painted with a level of craft and intention that sets them apart entirely. Rich in texture, luminous in light, and alive with feeling, each piece captures not just a likeness but a moment, the quiet intimacy between two people, the warmth in a glance, the particular joy of that particular day.

His work has been exhibited at the Wallace Collection, the Royal Scottish Academy, and Mall Galleries. He has painted Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, and Kit Harington, among many other distinguished private clients. He holds the RMS title — the highest distinction awarded by the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers under the patronage of His Majesty King Charles III. Philip Mould OBE, handing Dorian an award at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, said simply that "his skill will be taking over."

A wedding commission is a chance to have that skill turned entirely toward you and your story.

    How does it work?

Step 1 — Getting to Know You Every commission begins with a conversation, a call or an exchange of messages, depending on what suits you. This is where I get a feel for your personality, your taste, and your vision for the piece. It's also where we agree on the practical details: reference photos, style (classical or hyper-realism), sizing, framing, and delivery. I can work from a single image or combine multiple references into one composition, provided the lighting is consistent.

Step 2 — Securing Your Commission Once all the details are agreed, a deposit is taken to secure your commission and begin the work.

Step 3 — The Painting Begins With references approved and composition confirmed, I begin painting. Depending on the complexity, dimensions, and my current workload, completion typically takes between two weeks and three months, though specific deadlines are always taken into account and accommodated where possible.

Step 4 — Progress Along the Way For more detailed portraits, I send progress photographs every two weeks so you can follow the work as it develops and share any feedback. You are never kept in the dark.

Step 5 — Final Approval When the painting is complete, you'll receive a final image for approval before anything is signed off. Any last refinements can be discussed at this stage, I want you to be completely certain before the piece leaves my studio.

Step 6 — Delivery Once approved and the remaining balance is settled, your painting is carefully packaged and delivered. The result is a living memory on canvas, elegant, deeply personal, and painted to last generations.

Pricing My commissions are priced individually, based on dimensions, complexity, and composition. Please enquire to discuss your vision and receive a tailored quote.
